On Saturday, March 10th. Team 4418 were asked to present at a FIRST Lego League Junior Expo where we talked to kids and parents about FRC and let the kids test drive Tote Bot. It was really fun and the organizer of the expo had this to say about us
Dear Jeff and Team Impulse (FRC Team #4418),
Can I just tell you how much I enjoyed meeting you and learning about your team and talking with you on Saturday?! Truly, I continue to volunteer forFIRST for two reasons: 1) how it benefits kids, and 2) the absolutely fabulous people I am honored and privileged to work with. Jeff, you and the other Team Impulse mentors and team members were such a pleasure to meet!
I deeply appreciate all of the effort it took to get so many members of your team to the Expo on Saturday, especially in the hectic rush of your competition season. I believe it is crucial for the Jr. teams to see what they have in their future and to be inspired by what you have accomplished. I cannot tell you how invaluable that time you spent with them was.
I am also so grateful for your flexibility and understanding when we ran out of time on the original schedule for all of the Jr. kids to operate your robot. We always run this tightrope of trying to respect the participants’, the audience’s, and the demonstrators’ time and keeping to the schedule vs. making sure every child gets the optimal experience. You were so gracious to literally change gears mid-stream and get everything set back up again for those last few kiddos. I know that was an unexpected hassle, but you were absolutely wonderful about the transition, and I know that your efforts made those kids’ day.
Thank you for being a joy to work with, all-around. You came in with smiles on your faces and positive attitudes. You got set up quickly and professionally and then patiently waited for your turn to demonstrate to the teams. You had a great design for a practice robot that worked so well for the kids to operate and a great system for keeping the audience safe and the robot “in bounds” at all times. You also had a great system for keeping track of time with each “kid operator” and moving them through the line quickly. Thank you for simply being an indispensable part of the Expo!
The photos we took at the Expo are now posted to the ColoradoFIRST website. By the way, there was a clear plastic tub with a lid that was empty but left behind in the gym, near where all of your other supplies were located. Is it yours, by chance? If so, I’m happy to bring it to DU on March 24th, and you can pick it up at my FLL Jr. information table (usually in the hall right outside the main doors to the arena). Just let me know.
Good luck at DU and in the future! I’ll be cheering for you! Please continue to keep me posted on how everything goes for you! I think you are all wonderful!
With Deep Appreciation,
